ANDREW Tate, a former kickboxer and controversial social media personality has been booted out of Instagram and Facebook following action by holding company, Meta.

A ban was issued against him after accusations of misogyny and promoting “rape culture” which violates terms of service and social media policies.

Tate was already being investigated by TikTok after users petitioned that he be removed from the platform.

The 34-year-old influencer, podcaster, and former MMA fighter found fame in 2016, when he was kicked out of Big Brother, a reality TV show, after a video of him appeared online attacking a woman and using derogatory words.

His online personality has been developing a cult following ever since, especially among impressionable young men. He had 4.7 million followers on Instagram prior to his account being taken down.

Tate was banned from Twitter back in 2017 after several inflammatory comments, including claims that “depression isn't real”. TikTok is the only social media platform that has yet to ban him.

Joe Mulhall, director of research at UK advocacy group Hope Not Hate said Tate "poses a genuine threat to young men, radicalising them towards extremism misogyny, racism and homophobia".

"We welcome Meta's swift action to remove Andrew Tate and we'll be putting pressure on TikTok to follow this example,” the group added.

Meta stated that they removed the former athlete from their platforms on the grounds of "dangerous organisations and individuals" but have yet to provide specific details. – The Vibes, August 20, 2022
