KUALA LUMPUR – One of Japan's most prominent writers, Kawaguchi Toshikazu, will be in the city for a special talk session. 

Toshikazu will be sharing about his journey in becoming a novelist, the thought process that goes into his works, and also how he came up with the “special rules” in his novels.

The author will also be answering questions from the audience during “Ask Kawaguchi Anything!” 

Titled Public talk: Life of Kawaguchi Toshikazu, it is organised by the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL). The talk will be held on Sunday, November 27 at the Main Entrance (near English Magazine section), Books Kinokuniya KLCC.

Born in 1971, Toshikazu is a novelist, screenwriter, and theatre director. His debut work ‘Before the Coffee Gets Cold’ was nominated for the Bookstore Awards 2017 and was made into a movie in 2018. 

The series has sold 1.4 million copies in Japan, over 500,000 copies in Italy, and over 250,000 copies in Taiwan, and is on the best-selling list in the United Kingdom and the United States.  

Toshikazu will be taking part in the annual Georgetown Literary Festival (GTLF) to be held from November 24 to 27.

For those attending the GTLF, catch Kawaguchi’s session: “Conversation: Time-Travel with a Cup of Coffee Toshikazu Kawaguchi in conversation with Shazmin Shamsuddin on Friday, November 25 at 3.30pm at Bangunan UAB Multipurpose Hall, First Floor.

In this special one-on-one session, The Vibes’ Culture & Lifestyle editor explores the age-old question: What would you change if you could travel back in time? More importantly, who would you want to meet, maybe for one last time? The session is supported by the JFKL.
