JAGUAR first showed off the F-Pace way back in September 2015. It was their first ever luxury SUV and was the pride of Ratan Tata, who bought both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands from Ford Motor back in June 2008, for about 50% of what Ford had paid for both brands, which was US$2.3 Billion (RM9.36 billion).

With Tata’s cash infusion and the quick decision to design exciting sexy new cars, Jaguar Land Rover released new sedans, sports cars and saw their sales rise around the world. By 2013, Jaguar sales had hit an all time high of 77,000 units.

The strategy was to invest "proportionately more" in new products, pumping around 14% of annual revenues into research and development and capital expenditures, far outpacing the industry's typical capex ratio of around 5%.

Soon, it was time to launch a luxury SUV. With Land Rover 4x4 engineering already available, the F-Pace was born.

However, it must be noted that the F-Pace is not based on any Land Rover model. Instead, Jaguar developed the F-Pace itself using its own lightweight aluminium structure which is the same that is used for the XE and XF sedans.

New Engine

Now for 2020 comes a new Jaguar F-Pace, the SVR equipped with Jaguar's 550PS 5.0-litre V8 Supercharged petrol engine, now with 700Nm torque, an increase of 20Nm.

This uplift in torque delivers enhanced performance, with the F-Pace SVR capable of 0-100km/h in just 4.0 seconds which is three-tenths of a second faster than before, and a top speed of 286km/h which is an increase of 2mph.

The powertrain now features the same torque converter used in the record-breaking Jaguar XE SV Project 8 sedan, to withstand the higher loads produced.

As well as the improved torque and acceleration, CO2 emissions are also reduced from 281g/km to 275g/km with fuel economy now up to 23.1mpg (12.2l/100km).

Stopping Power

Buyers benefit from improved brake feel in the new Jaguar F-Pace SVR.

The 395mm (front) and 396mm (rear) two-piece disc brakes are now supported by a new Integrated Power Booster which, along with a recalibration of the system, delivers a sportier and shorter brake pedal.

This tuning is specific to the SVR performance flagship, while the brake system uses an electric booster, rather than a vacuum system.

The improved cooling and aerodynamics of the vehicle also improve the performance of the brakes, giving the driver even greater confidence.

Gearbox Provided

The 5.0-litre V8 Supercharged petrol engine is paired with Jaguar's ultra-responsive, smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission, which delivers rapid gearshifts for effortless performance, while adapting the way power is delivered to suit the driving situations.

Big Wheels

The new F-Pace SVR is also available with a new 22-inch forged alloy wheel design.

The five-spoke design is finished in Gloss Black with Satin Grey inserts, with the grey tone matching other exterior finishes on elements such as the side air vents and wheel arch trim, for a stealth-like appearance.

This is all finished off with the new SVR logo printed on the wheel.

This Jaguar F-Pace SVR will be available in Malaysia in the coming months and it will be the SUV for Malaysians wanting an alternative to common looking luxury SUV’s currently on our roads. – The Vibes, December 8, 2020
