A GROUP of passionate cyclists has launched a campaign with an audacious goal. Ride With Hope seeks to achieve a distance of 1,000,000 kilometres a week through cycling.
The campaign aims to make a positive impact on vulnerable patients suffering from lysosomal storage diseases (LSD). It will raise awareness and provide financial support through the Malaysia Lysosomal Diseases Association (MLDA).
To kick off the campaign on International MPS Awareness Day, more than 200 cyclists took part in an event organised by Stay Young Riding Club (SYRC) and hosted by Gamuda Land.
They embarked on a cycling journey from Twentyfive7 Experience Gallery to Gamuda Cove, where they met 13 patients and their families.

The cyclists had the chance to connect with the patients and gain insight into their daily struggles. Later, the patients were treated to a day of fun at Gamuda Cove’s SplashMania waterpark, courtesy of Gamuda Land.
MLDA president Lee Yee Seng highlighted the significance of each pedal stroke as a symbol of solidarity. It also serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by LSD patients and their families in their fight for equal rights and a dignified life.
The Ride With Hope (RWH) campaign encompasses a series of cycling activities, with cyclists taking Hope the Sloth to various locations.
Members of the RWH cycling club are encouraged to contribute to the cumulative mileage challenge through club or self-rides.
The RWH cycling club also organises a weekly club ride every Wednesday night in Putrajaya.
A highlight of the campaign will be the participation of several cyclists in the renowned Paris-Brest-Paris 1200km event in August, followed by the Ride & Run with Hope event in September.
The RWH campaign will be carried out in phases. Phase 1 will focus on raising RM5.5 million this year to support initiatives by MLDA.
These initiatives include increasing access to enzyme replacement therapy for patients in need, implementing newborn screening programmes for early detection of LSDs, facilitating genetic diagnostic tests for accurate diagnoses, and empowering patients through educational resources, counselling, and community support.
By taking part in this campaign, cyclists are also making a tangible difference in the lives of LSD patients and their families.
Cycling enthusiasts, individuals, and organisations are welcome. Every pedal stroke becomes a symbol of solidarity and support for LSD patients.
