POLICE are seeking help from Interpol to review some information and evidence obtained in the investigation into the murder of autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said.
“We have requested assistance from Interpol regarding its database. While we have some information, it is not conclusive, and we require additional data from its database,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Hussein said police have recorded 225 conversations from families and residents at Idaman Apartments in Damansara Damai and taken 248 DNA samples.
According to him, police will not give up on investigating despite finding limited evidence.
“As everyone knows, the location where Zayn Rayyan’s body was found is a secondary crime scene. As a result, we have limited physical evidence, so we (police) are still tracking the primary crime scene (murder location),” he added.
The case is being investigated under section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The victim was found dead near a creek, about 200m from his home at Apartment Idaman in Damansara Damai, a day afterhis mother reported him missing on December 5.
The results of the subsequent autopsy found injuries to the neck and body due to self-defence.
His mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 28, sought public help to look for her son by posting on Facebook.
According to her Facebook message soon after the incident, her son was walking behind her after school to their apartment.
However, when she turned around, he had disappeared, and she did not even hear him running off.
Preliminary investigations showed the stream was not near usual community routes. Police have not ruled out the possibility the suspect was familiar with the location.
Hussein today said the investigation process has now entered the third phase, where the forensic team is now focusing on a specific unit in a specific block of the apartment.
He said police had detained 12 individuals, but found they had nothing to do with the child’s murder.
“Investigations are still being carried out every day in the area. We will not give up hope and will continue until the perpetrator is arrested. Maybe not now, but we are confident that this criminal will be caught,” he said. – The Vibes, December 23, 2023
