THE wife of former Sarawak governor, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, 88, has appealed to the people of Sarawak to stop all accusations and negative assumptions against her.
According to reports in Astro Awani, Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib in an open letter to the media said she was aware of reports claiming she absconded with Taib from a specialist hospital in Kuching.
"Over the last few days, there have been images on social media discrediting me as the wife to the former Sarawak governor.
"My only concern at this time is the happiness and well-being of my husband, Tun Taib.
"I humbly appeal to everyone to stop all assumptions and accusations against me as I am only focused on taking care of my husband at this time," she said.
Raghad also appealed to everyone not to believe rumours that she forcibly took Taib out of the hospital.
"Though I am a foreigner, I am now a Malaysian and will always be one.
"I will not leave Malaysia and will continue with my charitable works for all Sarawakians as soon as Taib is better.
"With this, I hope everyone will continue to pray for Tun Taib," she added as reported by Astro Awani.
Yesterday it was reported that a medical officer had lodged a report in Kuching claiming Taib, 88, was removed from the Normah Medical Specialist Centre by his wife.
In the report sighted by The Vibes, Raghad allegedly showed up at the hospital at 11.56 pm on Saturday with her butler and bodyguard.
"Despite advice to have the patient remain at the hospital for proper and adequate treatment, I was informed by the staff nurse that she (Raghad) proceeded to voluntarily remove all medication attached to the patient without alerting the ICU staff on duty," read the report by Dr Mohd Nazrin Jefri who was the attending resident MO at the time.
Taib was then taken by Raghad, her butler and bodyguard in a wheelchair to a black Toyota Alphard parked at the entrance of the hospital lobby.
According to the police report, Dr Mohd Nazrin tried to explain once again to Raghad that her action of taking Taib from the hospital's care may cause harm to the patient.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata also confirmed that police have received a report on the matter and are investigating.
"We are investigating the case under Section 336 of the Penal Code.
"In the meantime, we urge the public not to speculate on the matter and let the police complete their investigations," he added.
Taib's family has since claimed they are also in the dark over the whereabouts of the former Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri.
Taib's brother, Datuk Mohammad Tufail Mahmud, in a police report lodged at the Kuching Central police station yesterday, claimed the family will hold Taib's wife "fully accountable and responsible" if anything happened to Taib. - The Vibes, February 6, 2024
