LED display screens at several locations in Kluang were hacked by cyber intruders and used to show obscene images and videos, prompting the local council to shut down all its screens

Majlis Perbandaran Kluang (MPK) confirmed the incident, which went viral on social media and WhatsApp groups yesterday, and said it would lodge a police report to facilitate further investigations.

The council said it was working with its vendor to determine how the breach occurred, restore the system and strengthen its security measures.

"MPK apologises for any inconvenience and concern caused among the people of Kluang following this incident," it said in a statement.

Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor also confirmed that his office had received a report on the incident.

"The MPK LED system was hacked and the council has taken immediate action by shutting down all LED screens," he said when contacted.

Several residents in the town centre and around the district's lake area reportedly witnessed the inappropriate content, raising concern among the public.

The affected locations included Dataran Tasik Kluang, Taman Intan in Kluang town and areas along the route towards Kahang.

Residents have urged the council to investigate and identify those responsible. - October 30, 2026
