A FILIPINO woman and a 12-year-old handicapped boy were killed in a pre-dawn fire at a housing estate in Bintulu, Sarawak today.
The woman, identified only as Marites, 40, was renting a room on the top floor with the boy.
The fire is believed to have started at 4am at the house located in the Fortune Park residential estate, said the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department.
Two houses nearby were also damaged in the incident.
The bodies of the two deceased were found in the rubbles of the top floor room after firemen put out the fire.
Nine others in the other house escaped unhurt.
"The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the police and hospital authorities for further action," the department said in a press statement.
