POLICE are looking for the driver of a lorry after a spare tyre is believed to have fallen from the moving vehicle, causing the death of a police officer, who was on a motorcycle.

Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng said the police sergeant died while three others were injured after their vehicles hit the loose lorry tyre at Kilometre 140.6 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS), yesterday.

The accident occurred at about 6 am involving a car and a motorcycle.

"Initial investigations found that the car, which was travelling from Juru to Seberang Jaya, was believed to have hit the tyre in the middle of the road, suspected of having fallen off a lorry that has yet to be identified, causing the vehicle to skid onto the left shoulder of the road.

"At the same time, a motorcycle from the same direction also hit the tyre, causing the rider to fall and be dragged on the road," he said.

Dennis said the accident caused the motorcyclist, who was also a 40-year-old policeman at the Perlis Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK), to be killed at the scene.

The driver and two passengers of the car were sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital (HSJ) for further treatment.

He said the results of the autopsy conducted at the HSJ Forensic Unit confirmed that the victim's cause of death was severe head injuries due to a road accident.

Police are investigating the case in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and tracking the owner of the lorry, which was the main cause of the accident.

"Anyone who has information about the incident or has dashboard camera footage is asked to come forward to assist in the investigation.

"Information can be channelled by contacting the Investigating Officer, Inspector Nor Aliza Fatim Ismail at 017-404 6215 or come to any nearby police station," he said.

The police officer involved was identified as Norshairul Subkri Salim, and his body was brought to his home town at Kampung Bukit Chabang, Padang Besar, Perlis for burial last night. - July 2, 2026.
