IT was not lax security at Malaysia's entry points that allowed an Israeli man, who was later caught with six guns in his possession, to enter the country, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

At security checks at the airport, the traveller had produced a passport issued by the French embassy in Tel Aviv, Bernama reports.

The minister urged people to stop blaming the authorities for a lack of security at the country’s entry points.

“Now there are attempts at spinning the topic, trying to insinuate that our enforcement is lacking, there are loopholes that allowed the individual to enter the country,” he said.

Saifuddin said the Immigration Act allows individuals in possession of recognised travel documents entry into Malaysia.

“If the travel documents are valid and we have no diplomatic issues with the country issuing the documents, we will allow entry,” he was quoted as saying.

Last week, the Israeli man was arrested by police with six pistols in his possession at a hotel in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. – April 2, 2024.
