Surrender now, police tells KLIA gunman

POLICE have urged the suspect involved in the shooting incident at KLIA Terminal 1 early this morning to surrender.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department chief Shuhaily Zain said this is to avoid any unwarranted incidents from occurring.

“Whatever happens next will not undo what happened at the arrival hall this morning.

“I urge him to surrender immediately at the nearest police station,” Shuhaily told reporters at KLIA.

Shuhaily said the suspect has a criminal record for two cases involving criminal intimidation, and one for theft and impersonating a civil servant.

He also advised the public not to take matters into their own hands as the suspect is armed.

“Do report to the police if you see the suspect. Do not try to handle this matter on your own because he is armed and dangerous,” he added.

Early this morning, a bodyguard was seriously injured after he was shot by an individual at the arrival hall of KLIA Terminal 1.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan, in a statement, said the gunman fired two shots at his wife but failed to hit her, injuring her bodyguard instead.

“The wife was at the airport waiting for the arrival of umrah pilgrims,” Hussein had said.

The suspect and the woman run a tourism company and the initial motive showed the shooting was due to personal reasons.

“For now, we know the two have a business together and they are husband and wife.

“The motive (for the shooting) is due to personal matters but we will know more once he is caught,” Shuhaily added.

Shuhaily also said the woman had hired personal bodyguards after she received death threats from her husband in December.

“We have initiated an investigation following a police report she lodged last year and the investigation paper has been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action,” he said. – April 14, 2024.
