PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will address the Sabah PKR leadership crisis at the next monthly central leadership council meeting.

After listening to the concerns raised by the party’s divisional leaders, the PKR president emphasised the importance of consulting with the leaders before making a decision.

"We have heard the views. Now we will discuss this at the MPN (central leadership council). We have to consult with the council before we can decide," he said in Kota Kinabalu.

Anwar said candidates, numbering "more than 10,” have been proposed for the position.

He did not say when the state liaison chief would be replaced.

"They have given us their views and I will negotiate with the division chiefs. I will announce the decision as soon as possible," he said.

The crisis, which has been simmering for about a year, recently escalated after half of the 26 state PKR division chiefs issuing a strong statement against Sabah chief Datuk Dr Sangkar Rasam calling for his resignation over perceived shortcomings in leadership.

This dissent culminated in the signing of a statutory declaration by some branch chiefs.

Meanwhile, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said the leadership council will meet tomorrow following which the new Sabah PKR chief will be announced. – The Vibes, April 20, 2024
