PUTRAJAYA’S decision to scrap the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) highway project should be final with no turning back by the government, the Coalition Against PJD Link said.
Coalition leader Sheikh Moqhtar Kadir said the decision to scrap the project must be announced by the works minister (Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi) and endorsed in parliament.
“There should be no more debate in the Selangor state legislative assembly and parliament.
“This has been a long-awaited decision (to scrap the project). This should be a permanent closure of the issue for residents,” he told The Vibes.
On Wednesday, unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the PJD Link project has been scrapped by the cabinet.
The communications minister said the decision was made after the concessionaire failed to meet six of the 11 conditions.
“The cabinet resolved that there would be no extension of time to meet the remaining requirement precedents.
“Previously, the company has applied twice for an extension to meet the set conditions. As a result of that failure, the project was not continued,” he had said.
Fahmi said the Public Works Department will issue a statement on the matter.
Sheikh added that Selangor Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari) should also announce the cancellation of the project at the state assembly.
“We are awaiting his (MB) announcement at the next sitting.
“We don’t want to have any lingering thoughts on this project.”
“We appreciate the concerns of the cabinet on this matter. They made the right decision.
“We also thank all our elected representatives for their backing and supporting us in raising this issue.”
Sheikh said that after this, the authorities can proceed with a proper traffic dispersal system for Petaling Jaya and Selangor.
Amirudin had previously said that if PJD Link was similar to the Kinrara Damansara Expressway (Kidex) that was cancelled in 2015, then it would be scrapped.
The proposed PJD Link was to have a 25.4km dual carriageway starting after the NKVE toll plaza on the Sprint Highway in Damansara. It ends at the Bukit Jalil highway interchange.
The project was planned to ease traffic congestion and support future growth in the Klang Valley. The PJD Link developer signed a concession agreement with the state government on April 5 last year. – April 21, 2024.
