Any changes to fly-past SOPs will depend on investigation, says minister
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said changes to any SOP for fly-past rehearsals will depend on the outcome of investigations into the recent helicopter crash.

CHANGES to any standard operating procedures (SOP) for fly-past rehearsals will depend on the outcome of investigations into the recent helicopter crash, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

"The investigation board is conducting a thorough investigation into the crash and we will wait for the full result of the investigation before deciding on the SOP," he said.

Speaking to reporters at the Armed Forces Hari Raya celebration in Kuala Lumpur, he said the ministry would also seek assistance from anyone who could help in the investigations.

"All we want is to get to the bottom of the matter and get a clear picture of what occurred. There is nothing to hide," he said.

Khaled also said all aid and assistance would be given to the families of the naval personnel and officers killed in the crash in Lumut.

Ten Royal Malaysian Navy personnel were killed when two of the navy's helicopters collided while rehearsing a fly-past for the 90th Navy Day celebrations.

Seven of them were on board an AgustaWestland AW139 Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM) from the 503 Squadron and the rest were aboard a 502 Squadron Fennec AS 555. - The Vibes, April 25, 2024
