COMMUNICATIONS Minister Fahmi Fadzil today confirmed the termination of Mohd Khairuddin Othman as the director-general of the Community Communications Department (J-Kom).

"For now, his duties will be temporarily reassigned, but it's unclear when a permanent replacement will be appointed, as there is a process involved," he said during the weekly post-cabinet press conference today.

However, Fahmi declined to disclose the reason behind the decision.

“There is a process involved for matters involving contract positions and this is a common occurrence.

"The process was structured and followed standard procedures,” he said.

It was reported yesterday that Khairuddin was removed - just six months after his appointment.

Khairuddin confirmed his departure after six months in office, but declined to elaborate.

"It is true. It (contract) has been terminated. I am no longer the DG (director-general)," he had said, adding that all questions on the matter should be referred to Fahmi.

The former two-term Paya Jaras assemblyman from PKR was appointed to the position on March 1, succeeding Agus Yusoff.

That followed controversy over an alleged video call between Agus and a staff member which featured a salacious conversation.

However, Agus said he had left because he received a new job offer. - September 25, 2024
