COLLABORATION between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) continues to be strengthened to combat the misuse of network services for online child sexual exploitation.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the MCMC, acting as the technical agency, will continue to play a pivotal role in assisting the PDRM, specifically the D11 Division (Sexual, Women, and Child Investigations) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in tracking down individuals who misuse network services so they can be brought to justice.
“The MCMC’s role is to ensure that any party misusing network services can be traced, apprehended, and prosecuted, particularly those who victimise children or women,” he told Bernama.
Fahmi noted that the collaboration also encompasses technical and forensic aspects to assist PDRM investigations into online child sexual exploitation activities.
On September 22, Bukit Aman CID Director Datuk M Kumar announced that eight teenagers, including one as young as 13, were among 53 individuals arrested on suspicion of involvement in activities related to Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) during the recently conducted Ops Pedo Bersepadu 3.0.
All suspects were detained in simultaneous operations between September 14 and 16, following intelligence gathering by the CID’s D11 Division and the MCMC.
Police uncovered activities involving the production, distribution, and sale of CSAM-related videos and animations via closed online groups, with the content offered at prices ranging from RM50 to RM60.
Fahmi added that the MCMC is also emphasising social media platform safety through the legal framework governing online security.
“Through the Online Safety Act, we are also emphasising to social media platforms the need to ensure that the environment, or the platform itself remains safe, particularly for women and children; notably, those under the age of 16 are not permitted to open social media accounts,” he added. – September 24, 2026
