THE Johor Darul Ta’zim football club (JDT FC) has ramped up security for its players following the recent attack against its club and national footballer Safiq Rahim.
JDT FC chief executive officer Alistair Edwards told the New Straits Times that the spate of recent attacks against national footballers was a matter of concern.
Edwards said the club had advised its players to practice caution when out in public and to be mindful of their social media posts.
36-year-old footballer Safiq was attacked near the JDT training centre.
He posted a photo of his smashed vehicle and police report on his Instagram account last night.
“I did not expect to be attacked near the JDT training centre.
“(Times like these), we have to be careful,” he wrote in the caption.
He was not injured in the attack, but was shaken from the experience.
Johor Baru (South) police chief Raub Selamat said investigations are ongoing to identify the suspects involved.
“Although there are no closed-circuit televisions installed where the attack occurred, we are viewing other recordings to establish where the assailants came and escaped to,” he was quoted as saying by the NST.
Police are investigating the attack under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.
Safiq was the third national player to be attacked in recent weeks.
