HEAVY rain and strong winds uprooted trees in Taman Kinrara Puchong this evening, causing damage to seven cars.

A spokesman from the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said no injuries or casualties were reported as no victims were inside the vehicles when the mishap occurred.

“We received a distress call at about 4.24pm and when we arrived at about 4.35pm, we discovered seven cars were damaged.

“No victims were found inside the cars as we arrived at the scene and clean-up work is in progress,” said the spokesman.

It is learnt that nine personnel from the Puchong fire station were dispatched to the scene.

A video of the incident went viral on social media this evening.

Two days ago, heavy rain had resulted in uprooted trees in several parts of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.

The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), in a Facebook post, said trees were also uprooted along the Sprint Highway.

Uprooted trees were also reported at Jalan Pantai Permai near Kerinchi, Jalan Bukit Pantai near Air Selangor headquarters and at Jalan Barat in Section 8, Petaling Jaya.

On May 7, a man died after an uprooted tree fell on his car on Jalan Sultan Ismail during a heavy thunderstorm in Kuala Lumpur. The 47-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A 26-year-old man who was injured was taken to hospital.

A total of 17 vehicles were damaged in the incident and the monorail line was also badly hit. – May 27, 2024.
