THE Penang Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, one of the country's oldest business organisations, will turn 100 next month with a call for its members to invest in green and renewable technologies.
Chamber president Datuk S. Parthiban said the way forward was for members to diversify and look into green technology, which includes recycling.
He said many members have built factories to process recyclables.
"It is time to expand their outreach and find new markets for recycled products," said Parthiban.
The chamber has about 400 members. It is affiliated with the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce, which recently marked its 100th year.
It was members of the Penang chamber who went on to form the Singapore chapter, said Parthiban.
The chamber has invited 700 guests to celebrate the occasion of its 100th anniversary. Guests include delegates from India, Sri Lanka, Namibia, and South Africa, besides members from the local state chapters.
There will be a networking session for local members to gain access to overseas markets.
A dinner will be held on June 21 at the Light Hotel, where up to 1,000 guests are expected. – May 29, 2024.
