Sabah’s plan to launch own MM2H hits snag after ministry suspends all agents

SABAH’S plan to launch its version of the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme on June 1 was derailed after the Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC) suspended the operations of all licensed agents on May 27.

Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew who only made the matter public today said MOTAC has remained insistent despite requests for Sabah to be exempted from the directive.

“The state government had already engaged with the relevant departments and agencies, such as the Immigration Department, Police, and Home Affairs, to coordinate the workflow and ensure applications for the Sabah-MM2H programme can be processed smoothly.

"We were ready to roll out the Sabah-MM2H programme on June 1, and many people were looking forward to submitting their applications.

"We were surprised when MOTAC suspended the operations of all licensed agents processing new applications with immediate effect,” said Liew in a statement in Kota Kinabalu today.

Liew said her ministry has urged MOTAC to reconsider its decision but Motac still refused the state government's requests in its reply on May 31, she said. – The Vibes, June 6, 2024.
