MURDERED autistic boy Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin’s mother did not enter a plea but only gave a statement to the court today, according to her lawyer.

Mahmud Jumaat said today’s closed court session was to obtain his client’s statement under Section 26(1) of the Evidence Act 1950.

“Any admission made in police custody cannot be used in court unless it’s made in the presence of a sessions court judge or magistrate,” he told a media conference today.

Section 26(1) of the Evidence Act states that no confession made by anyone while under police custody could be used in court unless it was made in the presence of a sessions court judge or magistrate.

Last December 6, the body of six-year-old Zayn was found lying in a stream close to his home at Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai in Petaling Jaya. He was reported missing the day before.

The child is believed to have been murdered after a post-mortem found self-defence wounds on his body.

The couple were detained by police two weeks ago to assist in investigations.

The magistrates’ court last Friday extended the remand order against Zayn’s parents for six more days until June 12.

The boy’s parents were initially remanded for seven days to assist in the murder investigation. – June 12, 2024.
