INVESTIGATIONS into the murder of six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin will continue under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin said this was despite the charging of the boy’s parents for child neglect under Section 31 of the Child Act earlier today.

“Though both parents have been released on bail after they were formally charged, investigations into the child’s murder will continue.

“Police will continue looking for the real perpetrator,” he said.

Earlier today, the parents of the deceased autistic boy were charged at the Petaling Jaya sessions court with neglect of their son.

Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf, aged 29, said they understood the charge and pleaded not guilty.

The couple was arrested on May 31. The police also arrested Zayn’s grandparents yesterday.

The grandparents, said Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar, were detained to assist investigations into the boy’s murder.

Last December 6, Zayn's body was found lying in a stream close to his home at Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai in Petaling Jaya. He was reported missing the day before.

The child is believed to have been murdered after a post-mortem found self-defence wounds on his body. – June 13, 2024
