KOTA KINABALU – Higher airfare costs and strict health procedures are troubling Sabahans as they try to travel home from Peninsular Malaysia.
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said: “Sabahans are facing issues returning home because costs are gradually increasing and becoming more unaffordable.
“They need to pay for not only airfare, but also Covid-19 swab tests. Those who are running on a tight budget, especially the single ones, are struggling just to be with their families.
“What about those who are married and have children? Going home for them would cost a bomb,” he said here today.
He commented on this matter after his flight was postponed recently.
The health SOPs require that anyone travelling interstate should undergo a swab test, but the results are only valid for three days.
He said he now has to take another swab test in order to be allowed to take his next flight.
“I hope the National Security Council and relevant authorities can be more responsible and concerned about what the people are experiencing.
“For such reasons, many Sabahans are now reluctant to fly home this festive season,” he said. – The Vibes, December 17, 2020
