VISITORS to the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Domestic Tourism Fair (MDTF), Jom Cuti-Cuti Malaysia can expect discounts up to 20% for most of the selected packages offered.
Organising chairman Datuk Khoo Boo Lim urged Malaysians to visit the fair and support local tourism.
"Why let the online platforms get it. Visitors should come here and take advantage of the deals offered with hotel stay and packages with discounts up to 20%," he said.
MDTF 2024 is set to showcase a lineup of over 150 exhibitors, featuring more than 100 diverse organisations across Malaysia’s tourism scene.
These include premier hotels, luxury resorts, airlines, travel and tour agencies and other tourism-related service exhibitors and organisations.
Tourism Malaysia is setting its sights even higher this year and expects to achieve its goal of 220 million domestic travellers and generate RM88 billion in revenue.
Its deputy chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin said in the first quarter they had achieved 25% of their target.
"To maintain this upward momentum and ensure our ambitious annual target is met, Malaysians can expect more programs, activities, and events designed to stimulate the tourism market throughout this year.
"We are hard at work in ensuring the continued prosperity of our wonderful nation," he said at Malaysian Assoociation of Hotels (MAH) Domestic Tourism Fair, Jom Cuti-Cuti Malaysia, at Pavilion Bukit Jalil.
Yeoh said that in 2023, Malaysia’s domestic tourism saw an impressive growth, with 213.7 million visitors generating RM84.9 billion in revenue.
"This marks a remarkable increase of 24.6% in visitors and 32.5% in revenue compared to 2022.
"While these figures are encouraging, there is still room for improvement. To put this in context, pre-pandemic 2019 saw 239.1 million visitors and RM103.2 billion in expenditures.
"We aim to not only reach but surpass pre-pandemic levels of performance."
The fair is expected to attract 20,000 visitors throughout the event.
To alleviate traffic congestion, MDTF encourage visitors to use the free shuttle bus services between LRT Awan Besar and Pavilion Bukit Jalil. The shuttle will run every 20 minutes from 8am to 11pm.
The fair will also feature engaging pocket talks, live music shows, lucky draws, and other form of entertainment suitable for the whole family.
The first 5,000 visitors can claim a RM50 cash voucher each day at the registration counter for use at participating event booths.
In commemoration of its 50th year anniversary, the fair is held today and tomorrow at Pavilion Bukit Jalil Exhibition Centre, Level-5 from 10am to 9pm. – The Vibes, July 6, 2024.
