PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim condemned the shooting of Donald Trump during the start of a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, US, today.
“Violence is never the answer, even when one is against a political figure.
“Whatever our stance towards any figure, this is not the way to resolve issues,” he said.
“We express sympathy towards Trump and hope the situation remains under control,” he told reporters after the National Felda Settlers’ Day 2024 celebration launch at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang.
Earlier today, it was reported that the former US president was injured when a gunman opened fire at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The gunman and a member of the audience were killed while another spectator was said to be critically wounded.
Pictures from the scene showed Trump bleeding from his face as he was whisked away by Secret Service agents.
Trump was shown raising his fist to the crowd as he was helped into a vehicle and driven away.
On another matter, Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s stand against the continuous attacks by the Israeli regime on Palestine.
“Malaysia once again condemns the continuous inhumane violence by the Israeli regime,” he said.
Wisma Putra had also condemned the relentless attacks by Israel on Palestinians, including the airstrike carried out on the al-Mawasi refugee camp yesterday.
It said the airstrike took place inside an area designated by Israel itself as a safe zone for Palestinians, resulting in the loss of many innocent Palestinian lives, including women and children, and injuring hundreds of others. – July 14, 2024
