DEPUTY Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has apologised for a gaffe made during a rally in support of Palestine when he shouted “Hidup Israel” during his speech.
“In the heat of the moment and in high spirits, I made a mistake in my speech and I hereby apologise for that, he said in a Facebook post.
“But with a sincere heart and burning spirit, I continued to chant ‘Free Palestine!’, ‘Long live Palestine!’, and ‘Allahu Akbar’,” he said about his fiery speech at the “Himpunan Pembebasan Palestin” (Free Palestine Rally) held in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur last night.
The “Himpunan Pembebasan Palestin” rally was held to send a message to the world that Malaysia condemned the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh and stood against the continued oppression of the Zionist regime against Palestinians.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia was ready to offer medical aid to suffering Palestinians.
He said the aid was for women and children, who would be brought to Malaysia for treatment, if necessary.
“Insha-Allah, we will try our best to help them. We will speak up (for Palestine) no matter who is standing before us,” he said.
“And we will provide medical assistance to those who are sick, whether for them to be treated there (in Gaza) or to bring them over here for treatment. We will keep helping them.
“The government will provide funds (for this purpose) and I will also discuss this with several other countries,” Anwar said in a speech. – August 5, 2024.
