POLICE are waiting for results of a DNA test on the head and fingers of Istiqomah Ahmad Rozi, 33, who was brutally murdered and dismembered, Bernama reported.
It quoted Alor Gajah police chief Supt Ashari Abu Samah as saying the results were expected by the end of next week before the body could be released to the victim’s family.
He said the delay was due to the recent discovery of these body parts following the arrest of the main suspect in the case.
“We are currently waiting for the DNA results of the fingers and head, as well as instructions from the state prosecution director before the body can be removed from the hospital and claimed by the family,” he was quoted as saying.
Ashari also said the police were actively searching for several of the victim’s body parts, which are believed to have been discarded in different locations by the suspect.
On January 6, the media reported the discovery of a woman’s body, decapitated and missing both arms and legs, in a bin by the Alor Gajah-Tampin road near Kampung Rimau, Pulau Sebang, at around 2pm.
The Johor government has been providing counselling services to the victim’s family.
State Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Khairin-Nisa Ismail said this initiative was meant to help restore the family’s spirits.
“The young children of the deceased need moral and mental support, to face a challenging future without their mother. Therefore, I have brought in counsellors from the state’s Department of Social Welfare to assist these children immediately,” she said in a Facebook post today.
Earlier, Khairin-Nisa, along with state Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin and Tiram assemblyman Azizul Bachok, had spent time with Istiqomah’s family.
“We met with the deceased’s parents, husband, and two of their three children. Conversations with the family recounting the incident and their profound sadness deeply touched us.
“I pray that they persevere and are given strength, and that justice is served, with the perpetrator being punished appropriately for such a heinous act,” Khairin-Nisa added. – August 14, 2024.
