THE Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) is monitoring the issue of hotel check-in registrations in the country and giving serious attention to ensure industry players provide clarification, reported Bernama.

In a statement, Motac said the ministry welcomes further information from the public regarding this issue, which can be sent via email to [email protected].

The ministry also advised the public to read and understand the terms and conditions set by hotels before making a reservation.

"This step is important to avoid any misunderstandings or dissatisfaction, particularly concerning pricing and the services provided,"  the statement said.

This policy has sparked discussions among netizens, who largely feel that such actions are unfair to customers due to the relatively short duration of stay provided.

This follows complaints from the public that the check-in hours were getting later but the check-out hours earlier.

Netizens said most hotels now require guests to check in at 3 pm onwards but check out at 10 am or 11 am.

They said this meant a one-night stay is about 19 to 20 hours, while the latest they can accommodate for a late check-out is at 1 pm if the room remains available.

In response, Malaysian Association of Hotels president Datin Christina Toh said that the timings are always set in black and white when customers make their booking.

She said it is important for guests to take notice of the check-in and check-out times given by the hotels before making a booking.

“It’s a very subjective matter. The check-in time is set to ensure the room is well prepared for the next guest,” she said.

“At the end of the day, it’s about an agreement between both parties. If the customer is satisfied with the terms and conditions, they can proceed with the booking," she added. - September 26, 204
