SARAWAK has officially invited researchers and history experts from the world-renowned British Museum to come to Sarawak to explore the historical artefacts in this Borneo state.
Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Culture and Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Karim Hamzah is in London now with Sarawak Museum director Nancy Johli.
They met British Museum director Dr Nicholas Cullinan in London to sign a deal to get the experts from the British Museum head office in London to come to Sarawak soon.
These British experts will also carry out in-depth studies into Sarawak artefacts that had been shipped to England decades ago during colonial rule.
"The British Museum is one of the most respected history research institutions in the world.
"Getting them to work with Sarawak to study further into our history is a major step towards developing our understanding of our very rich history.
"This is a crucial step forward for Sarawak in creating international partnerships in the field of historical research," the department said in the statement.
On Oct 25, Sarawak Head of State Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaffar had also invited history experts and researchers from throughout Malaysia to come to Sarawak and dig deeper into the state's history.
Junaidi said there is still plenty of historical information about Sarawak that is still waiting to be discovered.
"Sarawak has a very interesting history dating back many centuries.
"There is much more for us to explore and learn and record down, not just about the era after the Brooke Rajah but before the arrival of the Brookes.
"We invite local history scholars to help us do more intense research about our past,” He said. - November 8, 2024
