COMMUNICATIONS Minister Fahmi Fadzil officially launched the "AI in the Newsroom" course today, organised by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).

This marks the first in a series of AI-focused training programmes aimed at enhancing media professionals' understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications in modern journalism.

The two-day course, which took place at the Huawei Customer Solution Innovation Centre in Kuala Lumpur, saw the participation of 40 journalists and editors from various media outlets.

It offers hands-on training in utilising AI for news production, fact-checking, and content optimisation, with expert guidance from leading firms Huawei and REDtone.

This initiative is part of BERNAMA's ongoing efforts to prepare journalists for an evolving media landscape, where AI increasingly plays a critical role in news gathering, editing, and dissemination.

Funded through a special RM1 million allocation announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at National Journalists' Day 2024, the course aims to ensure that AI enhances newsroom efficiency without compromising the fundamental values of journalism, such as accuracy, authenticity, and ethics.

Bernama has already made significant strides in adopting AI-driven solutions, setting a benchmark for the Malaysian media industry. – February 24, 2025
