THE Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC) is investigating alleged misconduct linked to the death of Noorizwan Zulkefly, who died after being taken from police custody for hospital treatment.
Noorizwan was referred to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz in Cheras on Sept 30 and was pronounced dead at 1.52am the following day.
The IPCC said on Monday that its investigation would examine the facts, documents, evidence and circumstances surrounding the incident under the Independent Police Conduct Commission Act 2022 (Act 839).
It said the inquiry would be conducted independently and impartially, with its findings submitted to the Police Force Commission in accordance with the law.
The commission cautioned that the launch of the investigation did not mean any party had been found to have committed misconduct, adding that any findings or recommendations would be based on verified evidence and applicable legal provisions.
Noorizwan had been detained at the Cheras district police headquarters in connection with investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as well as Sections 457 and 379 of the Penal Code.
The IPCC said it was committed to conducting its oversight role transparently and professionally while respecting the rights and interests of all parties involved. - October 27, 2026
