PN moves to discipline Bersatu, with suspension or expulsion possible
Tensions emerge ahead of the Melaka state election - October 26, 2026

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), with the party facing possible suspension or expulsion over alleged actions that ran counter to the coalition's interests.

PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the decision was made at an emergency meeting of the coalition's Supreme Council last night, with Bersatu to receive a formal notice detailing the allegations under Clause 15 of PN's constitution.

He said Bersatu would be given time to explain its position before the coalition decided on further action, which could range from a warning to suspension or expulsion.

One of the allegations concerns Bersatu contesting eight seats also contested by PN in the Negeri Sembilan state election, Takiyuddin said, adding that other matters would be detailed in the notice.

Bersatu could choose not to respond, but the coalition would regard this as an indication that the party accepted the allegations, he said. Any subsequent action would be decided at PN's next meeting.

The move comes as PN prepares for the Melaka state election, with Takiyuddin saying the coalition would contest under its own logo, although its seat allocation and candidate list had yet to be finalised.

He said PN was open to Bersatu using its own logo, provided approval was granted under Clause 16 of the coalition's constitution.

PN is scheduled to announce its Melaka candidates on Oct 29.

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin, who is also PAS secretary-general, rejected claims that PN could not hold meetings following the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision last Thursday to suspend the implementation of Registrar of Societies decisions concerning the coalition.

He said PN had resumed normal operations and sent notices for an emergency meeting to four Bersatu representatives on Friday.

However, only Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin informed PN that he could not attend last night's meeting, without providing a reason, while the other three representatives did not respond, he said. - October 26, 2026
