THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to call former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob once again to assist in ongoing investigations into multiple corruption and money laundering cases, Sinar Harian reported.
The MACC had already taken a statement from the Bera Member of Parliament last week, sources familiar with the matter revealed.
However, the commission has not ruled out further questioning of Ismail Sabri, though the timing of any subsequent summons will depend on factors such as his health. The former prime minister was recently hospitalised.
The investigation has already led to the remand of four former officials connected to Ismail Sabri, including two individuals holding the title of ‘Datuk,’ on February 21. They are suspected of being involved in corruption activities.
In addition to these four individuals, the MACC also arrested an assistant to a special officer and an executive officer from a foundation.
In a statement issued last Thursday, MACC Chief Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that eight additional witnesses would soon be called to assist in the investigation related to the four officials linked to Ismail Sabri. – March 2, 2024
