PERAK Umno Youth has endorsed Fahmi Ahmad Jakhisi, the vice-chairman of Perak Umno Youth and Tapah Youth chief, as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Ayer Kuning state seat by-election.
Tanjung Malim Umno Youth chief Datuk Mohammad Fadil Kamaruddin highlighted Fahmi’s strong connection to the constituency, noting that he is a local resident, born and raised in Kampung Jawa, Ayer Kuning.
"Fahmi is the former special officer to the former four-term Ayer Kuning assemblyman, Datuk Samsudin Abu Hassan. He has extensive experience engaging with locals, and is well-liked and accepted by all levels of the community in Tapah," Fadil told The Star.
Perak Umno Youth chief Nazirul Jamaluddin has reportedly confirmed that Fahmi’s name will be submitted to party leaders for consideration.
The by-election follows the passing of first-term assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin, 58, who died after collapsing during a friendly football match in George Town on February 22.
“Barisan Nasional should consider fielding a candidate from its Youth wing for the by-election, as the Perak state legislative assembly currently lacks a representative from the youth division. "Their voices cannot be heard in sittings," he said.
“We hope the party leadership will consider our suggestion,” Fadil added. “We believe a young candidate can make a difference in the Ayer Kuning by-election.
“While we mourn the loss of Ishsam, our struggle continues, as urged by our party president and Barisan Nasional chairman to start working on the ground, even though the Election Commission has not yet set a date for the by-election.” - March 2, 2025
