THE final day of the Dewan Rakyat sitting for the First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament will focus on critical issues such as the smuggling of electronic waste (e-waste), rising coconut product prices, and the potential adoption of perennial rice farming to bolster food security in Malaysia.
According to the Order Paper published on the Parliament's website, Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir (PN-Setiu) is expected to raise a question during the Minister’s Question Time regarding the urgent need for stringent measures to combat the smuggling of e-waste.
This follows recent large-scale raids on illegal electronic waste processing factories across several states.
Rodziah Ismail (PH-Ampang) will address concerns over the escalating prices of coconut-based products, particularly coconut milk, which has seen price hikes due to a local coconut supply shortage.
This issue threatens to disrupt the entire coconut supply chain, affecting both consumers and producers alike.
Meanwhile, Rushdan Rusmi (PN-Padang Besar) will seek clarification from the government on its plans to implement policies supporting the transition to perennial rice farming.
This move aims to strengthen the country's food security by ensuring a more sustainable and reliable rice production system.
In addition to these discussions, the sitting will feature the first reading of the Whistleblower Protection (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the continuation of debates on the Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage Bill 2025.
The sitting will also include the second reading of the Government Service Efficiency Commitment Bill 2025, the Employees Provident Fund (Amendment) Bill 2025, and the Mufti (Federal Territories) Bill 2024. – March 6, 2025
