PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysians to maintain political stability so the government can focus on national development and the people’s needs.
“We can only think about things like artificial intelligence (AI), development and rakyat’s problems when politics are stable. Otherwise, how could a Prime Minister even begin to think about those matters?” he said during the breaking-of-fast in Tuaran tonight.
Anwar said his meeting with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor earlier in the day focused on real issues like water, electricity and damaged roads — not personal gain.
“I didn’t talk about personal matters, or ask for land or timber concessions. We talked about what really matters to the people,” he said.
Praising Hajiji for calming Sabah’s political scene, Anwar said this stability was what allowed focus to shift to development, including energy transition and industrial growth.
He also advised civil servants and leaders to carry out their duties with integrity, discipline and compassion — especially during Ramadan.
“If we practise these values, we’ll see greater harmony, political stability and real progress in both national and human capital development.”
To students and youth, he offered encouragement to pursue digital skills and prepare for the AI-driven future.
“After Hari Raya, return to school with renewed spirit. Learn more, embrace technology, and use the platforms available to you.”
He said that major tech companies like Microsoft were investing in Malaysia and scouting for talent — but wouldn’t stay if the country fails to deliver.
“If we’re not ready and can’t provide the talent they need, they’ll simply go elsewhere.”
Anwar ended his speech by calling on Sabahans to preserve their multiracial and multireligious unity, saying it was the foundation for the state’s continued prosperity.
“With this kind of stability, Sabah can move forward and focus on what truly matters,” he said. — March 21, 2025
