THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will focus on six major road offences during the upcoming "Op Selamat 24" operation, set to run from March 29 to April 3.
This annual traffic operation will see a deployment of 6,957 officers and personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), with the aim of ensuring road safety during the festive season.
According to ACP Fauzi Osman, the Deputy Director of Public Policing, Investigation and Procurement at JSPT, the operation will prioritise enforcing six key violations: speeding, overtaking on double lines, using mobile phones while driving, using the emergency lane when the ‘Smart Lane’ is inactive, ignoring traffic signals, and overtaking dangerously.
"All of these violations will be strictly enforced, with a RM300 fine imposed on offenders," Fauzi said.
He also advised road users to be more considerate and manage their emotions while driving.
"Based on our investigations, many road issues are caused by the attitudes of road users. Therefore, in addition to enforcement, we are also conducting extensive awareness campaigns, including in schools, to spread the message of road safety to the public," he explained during an interview on AWANI Pagi this morning.
The operation will see the deployment of 871 officers and 6,086 personnel, with a focus on 25 accident hotspots and 46 blackspots, where fatal accidents are most common along Malaysia’s major highways.
The aim of Op Selamat 24 is to reduce road accidents and fatalities, and it serves as a reminder for drivers to prioritise safety and responsibility behind the wheel during the holiday season. – March 27, 2025
