A PRE-SCHOOL principal has been fined the maximum penalty of RM2,000 by the Ampang Sessions Court today after pleading guilty to causing injury by twisting a six-year-old pupil’s ear for making a mistake in writing the letter "G" last year.

The 61-year-old woman was sentenced by Judge Nurulizwan Ahmad Zubir, who stated that if the fine was not paid, the principal would face 20 days in prison.
The defendant was charged with intentionally causing harm to the child by twisting her ear at a preschool in Taman Cempaka at 11:30am on 6th March 2024.
She was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which stipulates a maximum penalty of one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
According to the case details, the child’s mother, aged 37, was informed by her eldest child, a 10-year-old, that the defendant had hit her younger sibling with a marker pen on the right hand.
The accused also twisted the victim's ear after the child made a mistake while writing the letter "G." A medical examination confirmed soft tissue injuries to the victim’s right ear.
Earlier, the defendant's lawyer, Jenifer Irithusamy, requested a minimum fine, citing her client's desire to move forward with her life.
“The defendant is a single mother with two children and works as a principal earning RM3,000 a month. She has apologised to the court, the police, and the victim, and has promised not to commit a similar offence in the future,” said Irithusamy.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Hairuliqram Hairuddin, however, urged the court to impose a penalty that reflected the public interest rather than the defendant’s personal circumstances, stressing that the defendant’s guilty plea did not automatically warrant a lenient sentence. – March 27, 2025
