A NORMALLY calm scene along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman in the heart of Kuala Lumpur was disrupted by chaos on Friday, as clashes broke out between several groups of individuals and enforcement officers from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

The incident, which went viral on social media, is believed to have been sparked by actions taken by DBKL officers against individuals accused of selling goods without a proper licence in the area.

Video footage, believed to have been captured by nearby vendors, initially showed DBKL enforcement officers seizing balloons sold by one individual.

The situation escalated when the vendor appeared to resist the authorities' actions, blocking the officers from carrying out their duties. As tensions rose, other vendors in the vicinity reportedly intervened, leading to further confrontation.

Several comments on social media posts regarding the incident suggest that the crackdown by DBKL was part of a larger effort to address the growing number of unlicensed vendors in the area, particularly in the lead-up to Aidilfitri celebrations.

Sinar Harian had reached out to the police for confirmation and further details regarding the incident. - March 29, 2025
