A MAJOR fire broke out in the Puchong area at around 8am on Tuesday, with the source of the blaze traced to a gas pipeline in Taman Puchong Perdana, Selangor.
Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, Assistant Director of Operations at the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), confirmed that the fire was caused by a gas pipeline explosion.
“The fire department received an emergency call at 8:23 a.m. on Tuesday,” he briefly stated.
At present, firefighters are working tirelessly to control and extinguish the flames. Meanwhile, numerous videos shared by online users have been circulating on social media, including a post by the Facebook page Putra Heights Residents, showing intense flames engulfing the area.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as emergency responders battle the blaze.
Subang Member of Parliament Wong Chen expressed his condolences to those affected by the major fire that broke out in Taman Puchong Perdana, Puchong, Selangor, on Tuesday morning.
Although the location of the incident falls outside of the Subang constituency, it is in close proximity to the area.
“We extend our deepest sympathies and prayers for the well-being of all those affected by this incident," Wong said.
"We also pray for the strength and resilience of the fire department personnel who are working tirelessly in these challenging circumstances."
He urged the public to remain vigilant and promised to provide updates as soon as new information is available from the authorities.
"We will update everyone with the latest information from the Fire and Rescue Department as soon as we receive the reports, and we are also aware that a fire department helicopter is en route to the scene,” Wong added in a statement on Tuesday.
Ahmad Mukhlis stated :"The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed that a gas leak at the nearby petrol pump may have been a contributing factor to the incident," he said.
The fire continues to rage at the gas pipeline site in Taman Puchong Perdana, Selangor, with intense flames still visible as of 9:37am today, according to live footage shared by a TikTok user with the account name Perodua PuchongJayaJeffry. The blaze has now been ongoing for over an hour.
The user, who was watching the scene unfold from a distance, reported hearing a loud explosion before witnessing the towering flames. Despite being some distance from the location, he described feeling the intense heat from the fire. – April 1, 2025
