PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has vowed to ensure all major key infrastructure projects proposed under the DAP - led administration are completed on schedule before his term ends by 2027.

He said that despite encountering hiccups in the past 10-years to initiate such projects, Penang has received numerous approvals for projects such as the Penang Mutiara Light Rail Transit (LRT) line.

"We have also secured financing from the federal government to complete many major infra projects including the LRT," said Chow.

The LRT would reportedly begin construction later this year.

As for the South Reclamation Scheme (SRS) major reclamation project off Batu Maung, Chow told a press conference that as of last month, more than 100 acres have been reclaimed, and such plots would be marketed by the state as an industrial landbank in December.

Chow stressed that the state government requires support from all sides to carry out the projects designed to improve the quality of life for residents here.

"Some quarters think that a government may overstay if it is too long in power. The present administration has been around for the past 17- years. Though, some people did not have confidence in our abilities, we have proven them wrong."

If the state continues to work harder, honestly and be more efficient, Chow trusts that the people will continue to render their support.

"After four terms in power, I hope that we can be granted a fifth term to realise our aims to develop the state," said Chow.

He said that the secret for sustainability in governance, was that the elected representatives must continue to work hard, be sincere and have a problem-solving mentality.

"We must also ensure unity at all levels of the diverse communities here," said Chow. - April 1, 2025.
