THE Selangor government is taking proactive measures to ensure the comfort of victims affected by the recent gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights by seeking alternative housing solutions, beyond the temporary relief centres (PPS).
Selangor State Executive Councillor for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi stated that the relocation would follow the directives of the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who called for the victims to be moved to more comfortable living arrangements.
“The Raja Muda has instructed that all victims be moved to rented homes, the details of which will be discussed in the upcoming State Executive Council meeting,” Mohd Najwan said.
Mohd Najwan said the state will engage with various parties, including Petronas, to ensure that victims are relocated to more suitable and comfortable accommodation.
"We are concerned that with the school term starting next week and many parents needing to return to work, the current temporary relief centres may not provide long-term comfort for the victims," he said.
Najwan added that discussions would be held with the Chief Minister and relevant agencies to find the best solution for the victims' welfare.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to the PPS at Putra Heights on Wednesday, Najwan expressed the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of those affected by the fire.
Earlier, many of the victims staying at the temporary relief centre at Masjid Putra Heights expressed their gratitude for the good treatment and adequate facilities provided.
As of 3 pm today, a total of 323 victims from 84 families had been relocated to the PPS for temporary shelter.
One elderly victim, Yaacob Yusof, 74, shared his shock from the incident but also expressed gratitude for the comfortable shelter, food assistance, and basic necessities provided.
Authorities, along with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), have been on the ground ensuring that all victims receive the necessary aid.
Meanwhile, investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing to prevent a similar incident from occurring again. - April 2, 2025
