THE Express Rail Link (ERL) service has been disrupted following a malicious act of vandalism in which cables essential to the operation of the KLIA Ekspres were cut by an unknown party.
The sabotage, which took place early this morning, has caused a significant delay to services connecting Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) with key locations including KL Sentral.
According to ERL, the disruption began with the damage to the service cables, forcing a temporary suspension of the affected train routes. In response, the rail operator announced that shuttle services were being provided between Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and KL Sentral from 6 a.m. onwards, running every 20 minutes.
"Due to the ongoing technical issues, all train services have been temporarily suspended," ERL stated in a post on Facebook. "Passengers are advised to find alternative transportation and plan their journeys accordingly."
Additionally, shuttle services have been made available between Salak Tinggi and KLIA’s Terminal 1 and 2 starting at 6.20 a.m., also running every 20 minutes. The public has been urged to monitor updates via the ERL ticket counters or check service status on social media platforms.
The vandalism occurred at KM48.5, between Salak Tinggi station and KLIA Terminal 1, at around 6.20 a.m. yesterday, leading to immediate disruptions in both the KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit services.
Following the sabotage, the affected services were merged at 6.58am from Terminal 2 KLIA and 7am from KL Sentral. Trains were eventually reinstated by 10am from KL Sentral and 9.48 a.m. from Terminal 2 KLIA.
Despite the resumption of services, the damage has once again caused delays today, with the company continuing repairs to the signalling system. ERL has reiterated its commitment to restoring normal service as swiftly as possible, while passengers have been encouraged to stay informed on the status of the trains.
This latest act of vandalism is the second such incident in recent days, raising concerns over the ongoing security of vital transportation infrastructure. – April 9, 2025
