A 34-YEAR-OLD real estate agent who was found dead in his SUV in Melaka on Wednesday was confirmed as Toh Wen Hui, the treasurer of Johor DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY).

According to reports in the Chinese media, the deceased was found in the SUV outside a hotel in Ayeh Keroh, Melaka at night.

The matter was also shared by fellow politician, Tan Hong Ping on his Facebook.

DAP Youth in Johor also confirmed the matter via a Facebook post last night, and said Toh had contributed a lot to the organisation and that his death was “a major loss to DAP Youth”.

Reports said that Toh had allegedly contemplated taking his own life as he was unable to repay RM700,000 in debts though his family had already settled RM200,000.

Melaka Tengah district police chief Christopher Patit said Toh’s cousin lodged a report after she located his vehicle.

Reports said the Fire and Rescue Services Department received a distress call at 10.37pm about a man locked inside a car.

A team of six firemen later found Toh dead in the driver's seat of the locked SUV.

There were no injuries on the body and no suicide note was found. Police have since classified the incident as sudden death.

Initial investigations revealed that Toh called his mother at around 11 pm on April 8 and spoke about the huge debts he was struggling with.

He also allegedly texted his mother and told her that he couldn’t pay the money he owed to his customer and had suicidal thoughts.

The deceased's body was sent to the Malacca Hospital for an autopsy.

Tan, who is the Bakri Member of Parliament (MP) expressed his sorrow and said Toh was always optimistic, cheerful, passionate and filled with positive energy.

DAPSY Johor also posted a heartfelt message: “Shocking news this morning, good friends of Johor Youth League. Rest in peace.”

Meanwhile, DAP Johor Bahru 006 in a Facebook post announced Toh’s passing and that they would go to the funeral house to pay their last respects.

Toh’s funeral is being held over four days at the Nirvana Memorial Center in Skudai, Johor, giving friends, colleagues and community members the chance to honour his memory and say their goodbyes. – April 11, 2025
