POLICE investigations have revealed that a police corporal who shot himself at the Penang Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) guard post last Tuesday was grappling with personal and financial difficulties, according to the state's top police official.
State Police Chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad (pic) confirmed that inquiries into the incident have involved the testimonies of nine individuals.
"The statements taken include those from police officers who filed reports, including those on duty on the day of the incident, the deceased's former wife and friends, a forensic medical expert, and the medical officer who treated the victim," Datuk Hamzah told reporters at the Penang Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in Seberang Perai Utara last night.
"The deceased has been laid to rest, and at the same time, the case investigation is ongoing as we have recorded statements from several individuals for the next process," he added.
"Based on the investigation, the reason the deceased acted in such a way was due to personal and financial problems," Datuk Hamzah said when questioned about the case's progress.
Corporal A Francis, 58, who was attached to the Kem Komandan branch, was found with a head injury in the guard room at 6:12 pm on Tuesday.
He sustained critical head injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound from a pistol, and the case is being investigated under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960. - April 14, 2025
