CHINA and Malaysia have further strengthened their socio-cultural ties through a series of collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and people-to-people connections.
The latest effort came during the China-Malaysia cultural exchange event themed “Together for Shared Prosperity”, held on Tuesday, Bernama-CMG reported today.
President of China Media Group (CMG), Shen Haixiong, who also serves as Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, said the two countries have made notable progress in mainstream media cooperation over the past few years, producing joint programmes such as Cerita Antara Kita, Edisi Asia, and Agenda Asia.
“CMG is ready to work hand in hand with our Malaysian counterparts to open a new chapter in cultural exchange and contribute to the building of a shared future between China and Malaysia,” Shen said during the event.
He emphasised the role of media in bridging cultures and bringing people closer, while also underscoring CMG’s commitment to fostering a deeper bond between both nations.
Malaysia’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Chang Lih Kang, echoed Shen’s sentiments, describing CMG as a vital conduit for fostering friendship and enhancing mutual understanding between the people of both countries.
“I believe collaboration across various sectors can strengthen bonds between our peoples, support the steady development of our bilateral relationship, and continue to nourish our traditional friendship,” Chang said.
As part of the event, the launch of the “Travel to China Through Film” campaign was officiated. The campaign, built around the concept of ‘film plus tourism’, aims to offer Malaysians greater exposure to China’s rich cultural heritage, historical landmarks, and scenic beauty through cinematic storytelling.
Additionally, a new round of media partnerships was formalised through signed agreements between CMG and several major Malaysian broadcasters, including Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), national news agency Bernama, and Astro Awani.
The event was attended by over 200 guests from the fields of politics, business, culture, and media. Among those present were Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Teo Nie Ching, Director-General of Broadcasting Malaysia Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman, Bernama Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia Manoharan Periasamy, and Chairman of the Malaysia-China Friendship Association Datuk Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan.
The event underscored the shared aspiration of both nations to not only expand cultural ties but also build a stronger, more prosperous bilateral relationship rooted in trust, collaboration, and mutual respect.- April 16, 2025
