PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today chaired a Special Meeting and State Development Briefing at Wisma Bapa Malaysia as part of his one-day working visit to Kuching, Sarawak.
Anwar was welcomed by Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and members of the state cabinet. Also present at the meeting was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
The one-hour session with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg focused on key development initiatives in the state, including the planned construction of a new deep-sea port in Tanjung Embang. The port, which is modelled after the Kobe Port in Japan, aims to boost Sarawak’s maritime logistics capacity.
Following the briefing, Anwar visited the port project exhibition before joining over 10,000 attendees at the Sarawak-level MADANI Aidilfitri 2025 Celebration held at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya.
The event, part of a nationwide series, was organised by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), in collaboration with the Sarawak State Secretariat Office and the Prime Minister’s Office’s Performance Acceleration and Coordination Unit (PACU).
With the theme ‘Ihsan Menyentuh Jiwa, Toleransi Menyatu Negara,’ the celebration aimed to highlight the values of compassion and tolerance as the foundation of unity in diversity, in line with the Malaysia MADANI concept. As the fifth stop in the series of MADANI Aidilfitri events, the gathering symbolized Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity and reinforced social harmony among its multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.
A variety of local Sarawakian delicacies were served, and visitors were entertained by performances from local artists.
PETRA, as the leading ministry, hopes the event will serve as a platform to express the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, strengthening core values such as love, tolerance, and mutual respect among the nation’s diverse communities while fostering a spirit of togetherness that transcends differences. - April 19, 2025
