PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Puan Noor Aishah, wife of Singapore’s first president, Yusof Ishak.

In a message shared on his Instagram wall today, Anwar described her passing as a significant loss not only for Singapore but for the entire region.

“I received news of the passing of the wife of Singapore’s first president, Yusof Ishak — Puan Noor Aishah — at the age of 91.

“The passing of a woman who was a pillar of strength during the formative years of Singapore’s national identity is deeply touching,” he wrote.

Anwar paid tribute to Noor Aishah not just as a spouse of a national leader but as a remarkable woman who embodied grace, loyalty, and a vital link between the leadership and the people.

“Noor Aishah was not merely a companion to a national leader, but a symbol of devotion and noble character — a shining example for women across the region,” he said.

The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation for the strength and sacrifices shown by the late Noor Aishah in supporting her husband’s political journey.

Puan Noor Aishah passed away today at the age of 91 at Singapore General Hospital. The news was confirmed by Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in a Facebook post.

Born in Selangor in 1933, Noor Aishah married Yusof Ishak in 1949 at the age of 16. - April 22, 2025
