POLICE have arrested five men in connection with a brawl that broke out during a Songkran celebration at a shopping mall in Damansara, an incident that recently went viral on social media.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja’afar, confirmed that the individuals, aged between their 20s and 30s, were detained to assist in the ongoing investigation.

“We have arrested five men. The altercation is believed to have started over a dispute while trying to refill water guns used during the festival,” he said.

The brawl came to public attention after a 56-second video clip showing the incident was uploaded to Facebook at around 10am yesterday, prompting widespread online discussion.

Earlier, police had announced they were investigating the incident, which took place during a water-themed celebration of Songkran, the Thai New Year, at the shopping centre.
