EIGHT people, including a woman, were arrested, believed to be involved in a case of beating up a young man - a video of which has gone viral on social media.
Seri Alam Police Chief, Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident occurred at about 9.30pm last Friday in an apartment area in Plentong Baru Masai, Johor.
Police received a report from the victim, 21, at 11.30pm yesterday.
"Acting on information, a police team from the Seri Alam District Criminal Investigation Division arrested eight suspects aged between 19 and 26, including a woman, at 2.30am yesterday at the scene.
"All suspects have been remanded for six days until Saturday under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code (KPJ).
“Five of the suspects have criminal records including drug related. Urine tests also found that four of them tested positive for methamphetamine," he said in a statement.
Mohd Sohaimi said investigations found that the victim went to the apartment at the invitation of a woman he knew through a social media.
Upon arrival, the victim was locked up and beaten by several men until he suffered cuts to his lips, ears and swelling to his body.
The case is being investigated under Sections 342, 385 and 324 of the Penal Code.
Earlier, several video clips went viral on social media showing a young man being beaten up by a group of men in a house believed to have taken place in Pasir Gudang.
A video also showed one of them punching and kicking the victim's private parts. – April 22, 2025
